Since 1962, the Horticultural Research Institute has directed more than $8 million of industry funds through its competitive grants program. Research projects have covered the full range of production, environmental and business issues important to the green industry. Funding for the competitive grants program comes from HRI supporters and their charitable donations made to the HRI General Fund or numerous named funds of the HRI endowment. The annual investment returns from the HRI endowment provide research grants each year.

Grants are typically between $5,000 and $35,000, although larger awards have been issued. Review our research priorities, project requirements (including our policy on indirect costs), and review process before applying for a research grant.

HRI is requesting the inclusion of a basic Logic Model with all proposals. A reference-only PDF of the application can be downloaded, but applicants MUST utilize the online application to submit a proposal.

Applications for FY2025 open March 1, 2024 and close May 31, 2024.
